Facts about Maryland Prescription Drug Violation Laws


Under Maryland law, a person may not dispense a prescription drug except on an authorized provider's written prescription or an oral prescription that the pharmacist reduces to writing and files or by refilling a written or oral prescription that is authorized. A person may not dispense a prescription drug by filling or refilling a written or oral prescription of an authorized provider unless the drug bears a label that contains the name and address of dispense, serial number and date of prescription, name of the authorized provider.

Penalties for violating this law are automatically guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding two years OR a fine not exceeding $1,000 OR both.
